Start with the purpose of your CV

A CV is not simply a record of everything you have done. Its purpose is to show an employer why your education, skills and experience are relevant to a specific role. Recruiters often review applications quickly, so the first page must communicate your strongest evidence clearly.

Use a practical structure

  1. Contact details: include your name, professional email, phone number and current city.
  2. Professional summary: write two or three lines describing your experience, strongest skills and target role.
  3. Work experience: list recent roles first and explain achievements, not only routine duties.
  4. Education: include the qualification, institution and completion year.
  5. Skills and certifications: prioritize abilities that appear in the job description.

Make achievements measurable

Replace vague statements with evidence. Instead of saying you handled customers, state how many customers you supported, whether satisfaction improved or whether you helped reduce response time. Numbers make an achievement easier to understand.

Adapt the CV for each application

Read the advertisement carefully and use accurate terminology that matches the role. Do not copy keywords unnaturally. Reorder your genuine skills and experience so the most relevant evidence appears first.

Final CV checklist

  • Keep formatting consistent and easy to scan.
  • Use a professional file name such as Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf.
  • Check dates, spelling, phone number and email.
  • Avoid unnecessary identity details unless the employer requests them.
  • Keep the CV to one page for many fresh candidates and no more than two pages for most experienced applicants.
